PortExpert provides you with a detailed look on all applications that are connected to the Internet. The information can be quite useful and they can give you a clue on potential security gaps or threats. Using the application is not challenging, even for inexperienced users.

The software is offered completely free of charge and it can be used on all popular Windows platforms. It takes only a few seconds to install its components and there are no special requirements you have to meet. Also, the software doesn't use a significant amount of disk space, RAM or processing power, so you can use it even on older machines.

Internet-enabled applications are presented in a list, along with their PID, protocols and with their remote addresses and ports. Each application will appear in the list multiple times, for each remote address and port it connects to. You can select individual entries and use the available controls, in the lower region of the interface, to perform a Whois query, to Google for the application, to open its folder or its website.

All applications that connect to the Internet are monitored in real time. Once you launch a browser, a messenger or other web applications, they will appear on PortExpert's interface instantly. If you need more time to analyze the applications list, which is shifting constantly, you may click a button to freeze everything. Besides web applications like browsers, messengers and so on, the application can also display system processes and local connections in the same list. All you have to do is click the corresponding buttons, in the lower region of the interface.

Pros

Internet applications are monitored in real time. PortExpert provides various details for each application. The software is lightweight, free and very easy to use.

Cons

The software doesn't come with any controls for terminating a connection or application. While using PortExpert, anything that connects to the Internet will be presented right in front of you.
